MUMBAI: According to weather.com, a low-pressure area is located over Marathawada on Tuesday morning. As a result of this very heavy rains are expected over parts of Goa, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra over the next 2-3 days – Tuesday to Friday.

The system is likely to move northwestward to reach Gujarat on Wednesday before stalling just off the western coast of Gujarat for a few days. This low pressure is likely to produce areas of heavy rain across the western side of itself, therefore, heavy rains are expected to lash southeastern Gujarat, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on Tuesday with the daily accumulation of 100-120 mm.

Rainfall is likely to increase in Mumbai and MMR over the next two days. Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to experience heavy rainfall in certain parts of MMR.

Meanwhile, for Saurashtra, the daily rainfall accumulation is expected around 100-150 mm from Wednesday to Thursday.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to form near the Odisha coast on Thursday. This cyclonic circulation and aforementioned low pressure over West India are likely to produce a wide area of light to moderate rainfall across much of the subcontinent during this week.

The moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are likely to bring moderate to locally heavy rainfall with the accumulation of 30 mm to 50 mm across Northeast India and northern portions of Central India for several days. Some parts of the Western Himalayan Region may also experience scattered rain on Tuesday.

Heavy rain is possible over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Marathawada, Vidharbha and Telangana.

An off-shore trough brings continuous days of showers across the western coast of the subcontinent throughout this week. Daily rainfall of 30 mm to locally 50 mm is expected.

Widespread rains with thunderstorms are likely over west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Marathawada, Vidharbha, Telangana and Coastal Karnataka.

Fairly widespread rains with thunderstorms are possible over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, north interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.

Lastly, the maximum and minimum temperatures are noted to be well above normal across the Western Himalayan Region and northern portions of Northeast India this week.
