TMC’s Leander Paes calls Goa an Island, spells “Novena” as “Novina”
PANAJI: Tennis player Leander Paes who now calls himself a Goa Trinamool Congress leader, is campaigning in Goa for the Assembly polls scheduled to be held in February next year, started his campaign by playing the “Catholic” card in South Goa. He first visited a chapel to have discussions with a priest and then attended Novena prayers at a local church.
But he got the spelling of Novena wrong. He has spelled Novena – (a spiritual devotion consisting of the recitation of a set form of prayers for nine consecutive days) as Novina in digital posters circulated on social media and also termed the state of Goa an island.
According to an IANS report Paes in a video message circulated by his party the All India Trinamool Congress said: “Goa is such a beautiful big island. One of the main businesses of Goa is fishery. The fisherfolk make up the whole island. While we have many issues in Goa, the fisherfolk have some major issues.”
