Sonali Phogat case: CBI ready to file charge sheet
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the actor and politician Sonali Phogat case from the Goa police is almost ready to file a charge sheet as most of the investigation is over.
Two of Phogats associates – her manager Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh were arrested by the Goa police and are in judicial custody.
After certain marks were found on Sonali Phogat’s body during the post-mortem, the Goa police invoked criminal sections pertaining to murder and arrested the duo. They have been in custody since then.
The CBI is investigating the case and is most likely to file a charge sheet before the 90-day period ends.
In case no charge sheet is filed, the accused could possibly get bail as they could claim that Phogat consumed the drugs of her own will and died as a result of a drug overdose.
Phogat died on 23 August 2022 at Anjuna in North Goa, under mysterious circumstances during her visit to the coastal state, which the cops suspect to be a case of murder. Traces of drugs consumed by Sonali were found in the toilet of a restaurant which the actor visited along with her associates Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, who are suspected of killing her for financial and property reasons.
