MUMBAI: Actress and model Cherlyne Martins met with a terrible accident while shooting for a Tamil film on Monday, according to reports coming in from South India.

She was shooting a horse riding scene and everything seemed to be going well. Martins was riding the horse and had also undergone training for the same. The horse trainer was also around and was holding the animal with a second pair of reins, hidden from camera view. The scene involved an act where the lead male hero fires a gun at the horse in an attempt to stop the woman from running away with a animal.

The male hero had a rifle which was only capable of firing blanks, but could mimic the sound and fire of a real gun, when fired. When the male actor fired, unfortunately the horse was looking right at the gun and on seeing the fire sparks coming out of the nozzle, and hearing the loud sound of the gun firing, thought that a real bullet was fired at him and bolted at full speed. The horse trainer who never expected such a thing to happen, ran after the bolting, frightened horse but it was of no use.

Martins was taken aback and her horse riding training did not come in handy, as the panic striken and alarmed horse would not stop. She was thrown off in full force by the crazy animal and landed on her shoulders and back in a crumpled heap, sustaining several back, shoulder and arm fractures.

Martins is recuperating in the ICU of a speciality hospital where she was rushed to after the accident. She is out of danger, but the multiple fractures, torn ligaments and muscles could take months to heal, her relatives quoting hospital doctors said.
