Goa Polls: BJP Priol Block Revolts, To Feild Sandeep Nigalye As Independent Candidate
PONDA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Block and Booth committee members upset at the induction of Govind Gaude into the BJP announced at a press conference that they would field Sandeep Nigalye, senior worker from party cadre, as Independent candidate from Priol.
BJP Block President at Priol, Mahesh Shilkar declared that all the workers had decided to field and rally behind Sandeep Nigalye as an independent candidate from Priol in protest against the party’s decision to impose Govind Gaude as their candidate against their will and despite their vocal opposition since many days.
Shilkar said it was their frequent demand with the party leadership to give a ticket to Sandeep Nigalye from the party cadre who has worked hard for the growth of the party but their demand was ignored.
Shilkar said in an earlier election they were asked to support the MGP–BJP alliance candidate and the next elections were asked to support independent candidate Govind Gaude and due to party loyalty they followed the order.
“But after winning elections these MLAs ill-treated BJP workers. These MLAs had claimed they were elected on their own strength. So this time party workers have demanded a candidate from the party cadre and also launched a vocal for local campaign since the past one year. We went with a proposal to party President Sadanand Tanavade opposing Govind Gaude’s induction and demanding a ticket for Sandeep Nigalye, however, the party leadership did injustice on the party cadre,” said Shilkar.
Nigalye said a few decades ago he joined the BJP attracted to their work style. The party did not field its candidate for many years at Priol but still the BJP workers protected the party’s existence for the past fifteen years.
When asked if MGP offers support, he said if his supporters permit then he will take the support of the MGP.
