Goa MLA Ganesh Gaonkar suffers heart attack while on Sri Lanka trip: admitted to Colombo hospital

PANAJI: According to a Herald news snippet, updated on Twitter, the Sanvordem Assembly constituency (South Goa) MLA suffered a heart attack while he was on a private visit to Sri Lanka.

Gaonkar was admitted to a hospital in Colombo after his health deteriorated and is undergoing treatment. It is not yet known as to who was accompanying Gaonkar in Sri Lanka. We will update this post with further details soon.

No further details are available as of now on his health condition. He is about 63 years of age and contested the polls on a BJP ticket.

After the Bhartiya Janta Party secured a majority in the February Assembly polls, the Governor of Goa had appointed Gaonkar as a pro-tem speaker, before the swearing in of the other MLAs.

This is a developing story, which will be continuously updated as new inputs come in.

5.30 PM, PANAJI: The BJP leadership in Goa said Gaonkar’s condition is stable and his family members have left for Sri Lanka today. The BJP did not mention the reason for Gaonkar’s hospitalization, only mentioning that it was a health condition. Reports about a heart attack are yet to be confirmed by family members.
