MALWANI, MALAD: Gangs of eunuchs are roaming around in Malwani, Jankalyan Nagar and Ekta Nagar, harassing and threatening shopkeepers, restaurant owners and other businessmen, forcibly demanding sums of Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per establishment and creating nuisance with rowdy and abusive behavior outside the shops and at times even inside the restaurants and establishments.

The eunuchs in groups of 5 to 7 roam around the area and forcibly extort money from the shops, said a local journalist who got into a argument with the eunuchs at one of the local eateries in the area.

According to the journalist who didn’t want to be named, he was having tea and snacks on Tuesday at a local eatery, when a gang of about 5 eunuchs barged right inside the place and demanding a hefty amount from the counter staff.

When the staff refused and offered a smaller amount, the eunuchs started dancing and singing inside the eatery, disturbing the customers.

When the journalist objected to their vulgar and abusive behaviour, they began abusing the journalist using very vulgar language and threatened him.

The journalist dialed 100, but by the time the police responded the eunuchs had disappeared.

While the Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika (BMC) is cracking down on hawkers, roadside food stall owners and vegetable vendors on the streets in the Malwani-Ekta Nagar area, it should also crack down on such nuisance makers, said social worker Minakshi Shinde from Malwani.
