Arrested Karni Sena leader Surjeet Singh Rathore had harassed two more women earlier
MUMBAI: The police said that aspiring TV actor and leader of the Rajput Karni Sena, Surjeet Singh Rathore who was arrested for allegedly molesting and harassing a model had similarly harassed more women in the past.
“This is the second on third instance. Earlier, a married woman in Mira Road, who was a hair and make up artiste had filed a similar complaint against Rathore,” the cops said.
In this particular case, Surjeet created a fake account on a social media platform and sent obscene messages to the complainant victim woman actor and to her contacts and friends.
On Thursday, he was arrested by the Bangur Nagar police station from his Andheri residence after police registered an FIR (in December last year) based on the complaint of a model.
The victim who is a model by profession lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police in December.
In her complaint, she alleged that someone created a fake Instagram profile using her name, and sent abusive messages to her followers.
During the investigation, Police found out Rathore’s involvement in the case, and thus he was detained.
A senior Police officer was quoted as saying, “Rathore created the fake Instagram account and used it to send obscene messages.” Surjeet had proposed to the model but she rejected his offer so he threatened to ruin her career and harassed her by sending vulgar messages to her contacts on Instagram.
“This is not the first time that Rathore has done such an act. He was accused in another case as well, but the victim backed out at the last minute and he was not arrested. He is a habitual offender,” a senior official said.
Surjeet Singh Rathore is booked under Sections 354 (a) and (d), 500, 501, 506, 506 (2), and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
