MUMBAI: According to a press statement issued by Gehana Vasisth’s legal department spokesperson and publicist Flynn Remedios, producer, actor and director Gehana Vasisth was tricked into a marriage controversy by a social media influencer Faizan Ansari.

“Gehana Vasisth did not know Faizan Ansari at all. They were shooting for a web series and were dressed up as husband and wife. During that shoot, Ansari came up with the idea to clandestinely release some of the “marriage” photos to the media. Gehana had met Ansari only once before the shoot. She does not know him at all. When he came up with the publicity stunt idea, she thought it was a joke. However, Ansari released the photos to the media and begged Gehana to keep quiet and not to respond at all. He promised her their web series would benefit from the ensuring publicity. However, the incident has created multiple problems for her in her personal life as she already has a boyfriend for the last few years,” Remedios said in a written statement addressed to the media.

This was fake news, which started off as a joke by Ansari who took full advantage of the situation for his own benefit. “I did not know him. He asked me if I could release some of the photos and I agreed thinking he was just joking. However, it has boomeranged badly on my personal life. I wish to clarify that I am not married, but I am in a relationship with a businessman from Mumbai. Since he is a very private person, I do not want to mention his name. The Ansari episode was a joke, which was amplified by him for his personal mileage,” Gehana said.

It was earlier reported by several media houses that actor Gehana Vasisth, who featured in shows like Behenein and Gandii Baat, had tied the knot in a nikah ceremony. There were also reports that she converted to Islam. Reports claimed she tied the knot with actor-boyfriend Faizan Ansari. Pictures of the couple as a bride and groom had surfaced online, which Remedios said were released by Ansari as a joke.

Remedios also said they were taking appropriate legal action against those who amplified the fake news. “This is a personal matter, but it has been blown out of proportion causing anguish to her family and close circle and we cannot allow it to continue,” he said.
