Updates: Gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, brother Ashraf shot dead

PRAYAGRAJ: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed in Prayagraj by three shooters posing as media men. He was shot point blank. The firing took place near the MLN Medical College premises, where they were being taken for medical examination in Prayagraj by a pose of policemen.

All three shooters who were nabbed by the police after they surrendered, were identified as Lavlesh Tiwari, Sunny and Arun Maurya are in the custody of the UP Police. One police constable Maan Singh who was part of the escort team sustained a minor injury. One media person was also injured in the firing, reports said.

The former MP was killed hours after his son Asad Ahmed’s last rites.

As news of the incident spread, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath summoned the State ADG law and order Prashant Kumar. The chief minister will be chairing a high-level meeting.

A high alert has been issued in Prayagraj, and additional forces, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the nearby districts, apprehending possible law and order issues.
