MUMBAI: Director of the Raksha Hospital Research Centre (RHRC), Raksha Multispeciality Hospital at Malad in suburban Mumbai; and cardiac and diabetes specialist Dr Pranav Kabra while speaking about the Tunisha Sharma suicide case has opined that Tunisha could have been suffering from Persistent Depressive Disorder or PDD, which was ignored and not treated.

20-year-old Tv actor Tunisha Sharma committed suicide on the sets of a Tv show, in the last week of December last year. She was apparently disturbed about a breakup with her boyfriend, actor Sheezan Khan, but the real cause is yet to be known.

Khan was arrested by the Waliv police (of Palghar district in Maharashtra) after her mother Vanita Sharma filed an abetment to suicide case. His bail application will come up for hearing before a Thane sessions court today.

PDD is a continuous, long-term, chronic and dangerous form of depression that must be treated and addressed.

Some cases of depression are more severe, with intense symptoms that may include significant appetite and weight loss, sleep problems, and frequent thoughts of death or suicide. Such depression can be paralyzing and can actually result in the individual committing suicide.

According to media reports, Tunisha was clinically obsessed with the ‘noose’ and even showed her co-star Parth a symbol or drawing of the same, one day before she committed suicide.

While several theories have been put up for the 20-year-old’s sudden suicide, according to Dr Kabra, PDD if left untreated or acknowledged can lead to very serious issues for the individual and even a small emotional trigger is sufficient to create major problems or lead to spontaneous and unexplained suicide.
