Shraddha Walkar murder case: Aftab Poonawalla had extensively read ISIS and Al Qaeda propaganda material

Published

on

shraddha-walkar

NEW DELHI: According to reliable  police  sources, Shraddha Walkar’s live-in boyfriend Aftab Poonawalla who murdered her and cut up her body into 35 pieces, dumping them in forest areas of Delhi over a period of 2-3 months had extensively read, researched and studied ISIS and Al Qaeda propaganda material online and also looked up on material on how to circumvent and hoodwink investigators and investigations in the face of sustained interrogation and even torture.

Al Qaeda and other similar outfits have detailed information for their operatives in the form of manuals or handbooks on how to face or bear torture and yet not share valuable information with the enemy. This information was searched and accessed by Aftab Poonawalla online in the two months prior to his arrest, sources told this reporter on condition of anonymity.

Aftab, a Muslim was influenced and brainwashed by ISIS ideology, propaganda and material, which he had accessed, read and studied on the Internet. The macabre and dastardly killing of his Hindu girlfriend Shraddha Walkar could also be a part and parcel of that ISIS ideology which he had read and studied and possibly embraced.

And given his statement to the Delhi police that he had absolutely no regrets about what he had done and he would be rewarded in “jannah” with 72 “hoors” smells of ISIS indoctrination, which the Delhi police must seriously look into, for Aftab Poonawalla could possibly be an undercover ISIS operative or sleeper unit in disguise.

manipur-easter

IMPHAL, (PTI): The Manipur government which had declared March 31, which is Easter Sunday, as a ”working day” has retracted its order on Thursday following protests by the Christian community.

Christians worldwide celebrate the Easter festival which marks the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the third day after his Crucifixion on Good Friday.

The state government on Wednesday said in a notification that March 30 and 31 will be working days in government departments despite being Saturday and Sunday ”for smooth functioning of offices in the last few days of the financial year.” The government modified the order on Thursday.

A notification by the General Administration Department said, ”In partial modification of the government order dated March 27, the Governor of Manipur is pleased to declare that only March 30 will be a working day for all government offices including public sector undertakings/ corporations/ autonomous bodies/ societies under the state government…” The modification came after the previous order caused a stir among the Christian population in the northeastern state.

The Tangkhul Naga Baptist Convention, Mao Baptist Churches Association and Senapati District Students Association condemned the order, terming it as a ”blatant violation and infringement to the religious rights and freedom of Christians” in the state. (PTI)

Goa State Polls 2027: Venzy Viegas, Cruz Silva may get Congress tickets, Vijai Sardesai as CM face?

Published

on

south-goa-india-alliance

MARGAO: According to the rumour doing the rounds on social media and in Salcete and other parts of Goa, AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas of Benaulim and Cruz Silva of Velim may switch sides and join the Congress. They would be given Congress tickets from their respective constituencies for the 2027 Assembly polls along with one more AAP leader who is expected to join the Congress next year.

Vijai Sardesai of the Goa Forward Party (GFP) will be projected as the CM face. It is not yet clear if Vijai would join the Congress or continue with his own GFP. However, this seems to be the equation worked out for now between the three MLAs and a former Congress state president who is in the reckoning for the South Goa Congress ticket for the Lok Sabha polls. Vijai Sardesai in the past has vehemently denied that he would wind up the GFP or merge his party into the Congress. He has always harped on the fact that the GFP is a local party and its foundation rests in its ideology of Goemkarpon.

However, former GPCC President Girish Chodankar seems to have patched up with his arch rival Vijai Sardesai and has worked out an equation or formula to win the 2027 Assembly polls, with Vijai being offered the CM’s chair or projected as the CM face, in lieu of his support to Girish in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

According to discussions on social media, Girish is confident that he will be selected as the Congress candidate this time and has roped in the support of AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva who have been promised Congress tickets for 2027. He has also convinced LoP Yuri Alemao and Congress MLAs Altone D’Costa and Carlos Alvares Ferreira to support him for the Lok Sabha polls.

It seems, according to one source a message was sent out to former Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao to join the “2027 alliance” by promising him a ‘ministerial berth’ if the alliance came to power. But Churchill being the shrewd politician that he is did not respond and later on turned down the offer. He is actively supporting the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, four-time Mayor and seven-time corporator of Panaji, Surendra Furtado was approached by the Congress high-command as a candidate for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat to ensure one Catholic (or minority community) face in the scheme of things. It is not known if Furtado accepted the offer, but his name still figures in the list along with Ramakant Khalap and Vijay Bhike.

The Congress is likely to announce their candidates for North and South Goa seats either tomorrow or day-after.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a filing in the court said it wanted to interrogate several AAP Goa leaders including MLAs Viegas and Silva and make them confront arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who is said to have paid huge amounts in cash to the Goa AAP MLA candidates for the 2022 elections.

Goa AAP leaders, MLA candidates to be grilled by ED regarding cash payments

Published

aap-aam-aadmi

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Delhi office was completely sealed off by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), after the Federal Agency arrested its convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. While the agency confiscated some papers, laptop and other digital devices from Kejriwal’s residence, the party office was sealed the next day after Kejriwal was arrested.

The ED said its officers will question several present and past AAP leaders from Goa as it has alleged that Rs 45 crore from the proceeds of crime in the Delhi excise case were used by the AAP in the 2022 Goa State Assembly polls.

Statements of some Goa AAP MLA candidates (for the 2022 Assembly polls) and party workers were recorded in the weeks preceding Kejriwal’s arrest and according to media reports, one MLA candidate gave a written statement to the ED that all payments and polls expenses were made in cash. According to sources, one ex-AAP leader from Goa who was questioned earlier, has told the ED that huge amounts in cash were distributed to voters to “buy” votes during the 2022 polls.

The present AAP MLAs in Goa – Venzy Viegas of Benaulim constituency and Cruz Silva of Velim will be questioned by the ED and their statements recorded, as will all the other MLA candidates who has contested the 2022 polls on an AAP ticket, ED sources in Delhi said.

Meanwhile senior AAP leader Atishi came down heavily on the ED for sealing the AAP Delhi office. Expressing her dismay, Atishi took to social media to question the sealing of the party’s office, arguing that such actions contradict the fundamental principles of fairness enshrined in the Indian Constitution. “How can access to a national party office be restricted during the Lok Sabha elections? This goes against the ‘equal playing field’ promised by the Indian Constitution. We are requesting time with the Election Commission (EC) to file a complaint on this,” the Delhi minister asserted.

Backing Atishi’s concerns, Saurabh Bharadwaj, another Delhi minister and prominent AAP leader, accused the central government of orchestrating the restriction of access to the party’s office, further intensifying the political turmoil surrounding the upcoming elections.

Kejriwal was remanded to ED custody for six days, until March 28, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy excise scam. The ED alleged that Kejriwal was the mastermind behind the scam, diverting funds to the Goa election campaign in 2022. According to the ED, Kejriwal solicited substantial bribes from stakeholders in the liquor policy, promising them undue benefits during the Punjab and Goa elections.

Arvind Kejriwal could be arrested today or tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal could be arrested any time either today or tomorrow. After the Delhi High Court refused to grant interim protection from arrest, an Enforcement Directorate team swooped on his residence with a warrant. The ED team of 12 to 15 staff and some Central Security forces have locked themselves inside with Kejriwal and nobody is allowed to enter or exit the premises. ED officials are presently questioning Kejriwal and have seized documents and a laptop from his residence.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s legal team moved the Supreme Court on Thursday evening praying for an urgent hearing tonight. On two occasions earlier, the AAP while citing the “agreement” reached between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi over seat sharing for the Lok Sabha polls as the immediate cause for his arrest.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued summons to Kejriwal several times over the last two months. The Delhi CM had so far refused to attend the questioning by the ED.

The fresh summons issued by the ED to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is an attempt by the BJP to take ”revenge” for the Supreme Court verdict on the Chandigarh mayoral poll in favour of the AAP, party leader Atishi had alleged at a press conference.

Kulfi seller masturbates in public, caught mixing semen in ice cream: Arrested

man masturbates into ice cream jar

HYDERABAD: According to a report by Telangana Today, a man running a roadside kulfi and ice cream stall in the Nekkonda mandal locality of Warangal district was caught on camera masturbating and allegedly mixing his semen into what seemed to be a jar of ice cream or falooda.

An FIR was registered after the video clip on Twitter went viral and the accused was taken into custody.

The vendor’s disgusting and horrible act was caught on camera and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a passerby, which was further amplified by other X users.

Several other news outlets including the Times of India and India Today published clips of the viral video, however certain portions have been blurred out.

As per reports, he was running his Kulfi and Ice-cream stall at the Ambedkar centre in Nekkonda mandal area.

Identifying the ice cream seller as Kaaluram Kurbia from Rajasthan, the Nekkonda police posted on their official X account stating that a case has been registered against him under IPC section 294 for committing an indecent act in public.

Twitter users demanded stern action against the accused and demanded that other non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code must be applied in this case.

Food safety officials, including food inspector Krishnamurthy collected samples of the items he was selling for further investigation and analysis.

Earth smashes Heat Records in 2023, highest temp in 174 years: UN declares ‘Red Alert’

Published

parched-earth-temp-heat-drought-global-warming

UNITED NATIONS, (Reuters): Every major global climate record was broken last year and 2024 could be worse, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said on Tuesday, with its chief voicing particular concern about ocean heat and shrinking sea ice.

The U.N. weather agency said in its annual State of the Global Climate report that average temperatures hit the highest level in 174 years of record-keeping by a clear margin, reaching 1.45 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

Ocean temperatures also reached the warmest in 65 years of data with over 90% of the seas having experienced heatwave conditions during the year, the WMO said, harming food systems. “The WMO community is sounding the Red Alert to the world,” said WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo, who took over the job in January.

“What we witnessed in 2023, especially with the unprecedented ocean warmth, glacier retreat and Antarctic sea ice loss, is cause for particular concern.” She later told reporters that ocean heat was particularly concerning because it was “almost irreversible”, possibly taking millennia to reverse.

“The trend is really very worrying and that is because of the characteristics of water that keep heat content for longer than the atmosphere,” she said. Climate change, driven by the burning of fossil fuels, coupled with the emergence of the natural El Nino climate pattern, pushed the world into record territory in 2023.

WMO’s head of climate monitoring, Omar Baddour, told reporters there was a “high probability” that 2024 would set new heat records, saying that the year after an El Nino was typically warmer still. Tuesday’s report showed a big plunge in Antarctic sea ice, with the peak level measured at 1 million km2 below the previous record – an area roughly equivalent to the size of Egypt.

That trend, combined with ocean warming which causes water to expand, has contributed to a more than doubling of the rate of sea-level rise over the past decade compared with the 1993-2002 period, it said. Ocean heat was concentrated in the North Atlantic with temperatures an average 3 degrees Celsius above average in late 2023, the report said. Warmer ocean temperatures affect delicate marine ecosystems and many fish species have fled north from this area seeking cooler temperatures.

Saulo, a meteorologist from Argentina who has promised to strengthen global warning systems for climate disasters, said she hoped the report would raise awareness of the “vital need to scale up the urgency and ambition of climate action”. “That’s why we spoke about the Red Alert because we must care for the people and how they will suffer from these more frequent, more extreme events,” she told reporters. “If we do nothing, things will become worse and that will be our responsibility.” (Reuters)

BRS MLC K Kavitha moves Supreme Court challenging her arrest in Delhi excise policy case

Published

on

k kavita brs

NEW DELHI, (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging her arrest in a money-laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy irregularities matter. Kavitha was arrested by the ED team on Friday in Hydrabad and was later brought to Delhi. Kavitha was arrested after a day-long questioning followed by a raid at her residence.

Earlier on March 16, the Rouse Avenue Court sent Kavitha to custodial remand until March 23, 2024. K. Kavitha was produced in the courtroom under heavy security in the presence of a number of media persons, lawyers and party workers.

Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhari, along with Advocate Nitesh Rana, appeared for the K Kavitha before the court. Advocates Wajeeh Shafiq, Anuj Tiwari and Deepak Nagar also appeared for accused K Kavitha in the matter. However, Special ED Counsel Zoheb Hossain and Special Public Prosecutor Naveen Kumar Matta appeared for the Enforcement Directorate. Chaudhari argued that this arrest was a blatant abuse of power. They have clearly violated the Supreme Court orders, which have protected us. He further stated that, as per the law, there is a stay on her arrest until March 19.

He also added that the vindictiveness and malafide on the part of the Enforcement Directorate are further writ large from the fact that despite the pendency of the issue/prayer before the Supreme Court that the mobile phones of the petitioner could not have been seized, leading to invasion of the right to privacy, the officers have gone ahead and at the time of the purported search on March 15, 2024. ED further argued that it is an admitted position that there is no written interim order in their favour The statement that we gave was that we would give 10 days before issuing a summons. If there’s a prayer for no coercive action, and until there is an explicit order, you can’t presume an interim order. There is no dispute between parties that the undertaking was never that no coercive would be taken against the petitioner.

In the arrest order, the concerned ED investigation officer said, “I believe that Kalvakuntla Kavitha, w/o DR Anil Kumar, residing in Hyderabad, Telengana-500034, has been guilty of an offence punishable under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (15 of 2003).” “Now, therefore, in the exercise of the power conferred upon me under subsection (1) of Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (915 of 2003), I hereby arrest the said Kalvakuntla Kavitha at 05.20 pm on 15.03.2024 and she has been informed of the grounds for her arrest. A copy of the grounds of arrest (containing 14 pages) has been served upon her.”

The action comes almost two months after the ED issued a summons to the 45-year-old daughter of former Telangana CM and BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao. She was questioned three times in this case last year and the central agency recorded her statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The BRS MLC has asserted in the past that she had done nothing wrong and alleged that the BJP-led central government was “using” the ED as the BJP could not gain “backdoor entry” into Telangana. Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation had also questioned Kavitha in this case. The ED case of money laundering was filed with cognizance of the CBI FIR.

According to ED, Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who was arrested last year in the case, “is one of the key persons in the entire scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and formation of the biggest cartel of the South Group.” Pillai, along with his associates, was allegedly coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the probe agency said.

ED has filed its first chargesheet in the case. The agency said it has so far undertaken nearly 200 search operations in this case after filing an FIR taking cognizance of a CBI case that was registered on the recommendation of the Delhi Lieutenant Governor. The CBI inquiry was recommended based on the findings of the Delhi Chief Secretary’s report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009, and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials said.

The ED and the CBI had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection, the probe agencies said. As per the allegations, the Excise Department had decided to refund the earnest money deposit of about Rs 30 crore to a successful tenderer against the set rules. Even though there was no enabling provision, a waiver on tendered licence fees was allowed from December 28, 2021, to January 27, 2022, due to COVID-19, the probe agency said and there was an alleged loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer. lok-sabha-elections-1

NEW DELHI: In an exclusive, Election Commission of India (ECI) sources told this website that the poll schedule could be announced anytime in the next two to four days and the Code of Conduct would come into force immediately.

In fact, one ECI source even claimed that the announcement would be made tomorrow (15th March), while another source said the announcement would be made on Sunday evening (17th March).

This would also throw a spanner into the finale of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which is expected to wind up on 16th March in Mumbai with a mega rally on Sunday, 17th March at Shivaji Park attended by all the MVA constituents, including the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar) and their allies.

Either way, the ECI could make the poll announcement and schedule public anytime between the 15th March to the 17th March, unless of course something drastic comes up.

Two additional Election Commissioners are expected to be appointed in the next 2-3 days, which will bring the strength of the Election Commission to three.
