Mumbai doc says Shraddha Walkar had consulted him about violence and anger management issues of her boyfriend Altaf Poonawalla

MUMBAI: In a new twist to the Shraddha Walkar murder case, Dr Pranav Kabra of the Raksha Multispeciality Hospital at Malad today said that the deceased victim in the Delhi Fridge murder case Shraddha Walkar had consulted him on phone around February 2021, regarding her depression and violence and anger management issues of her live-in boyfriend Aftab Amin Poonawalla.

Speaking to this reporter Dr Pranav Kabra – who is the managing director of Raksha Hospital at Malad, close to the Call Centre where Shraddha was working, said he got a call from one patient who identified herself as Shraddha Walkar and said she was referred by a social worker Shreha Dhargalkar.

“Since I had heard about Dhargalkar and her social work, I entertained the phone call and spoke to the patient. Normally, we do not answer calls of unknown patients or first time patients and request them to first visit the hospital and prepare their case papers,” Dr Kabra informed.

“She asked me about her depression problems and about anger management and the violence issues of her boyfriend. I told her we do not consult or diagnose first time patients on the phone but since there was a Covid threat, she said she would not be able to visit the hospital personally. Further Raksha Hospital was a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) designated Covid hospital then and I told her we need to do a psychiatric evaluation, psychiatric and psychological tests for both – her boyfriend and herself. She was hesitant to come to the hospital for various reasons, but told me on the phone that her boyfriend Altaf got very violent even for minor reasons or small fights or misunderstandings between them and she was worried that he might harm her or himself or both of them in one of his terrible anger bouts,” Dr Kabra said, adding that Walkar informed him that her boyfriend was behaving very weirdly in the last few weeks and was always on the phone with WhatsApp.

“I suggested she and her boyfriend do yoga and other deep breathing exercises and try to visit me personally as soon as possible. However, she never came to visit me. She had mentioned the name of her live-in boyfriend as Altaf Poonawalla and her name as Shraddha Walkar. When I saw the news on Tv, I realized that this was possibly the same woman who had called me in February 2021. However, unfortunately, it was too late to help her now, as she was already dead,” Dr Kabra said.
