Malad-Malwani society throws out actor for consuming meat during Navratra
MUMBAI: A struggling actor working as a junior artiste with OTT platforms, Manisha Sharma Singh, was asked to vacate her rented accommodation at Sector 5 at Malwani in the western suburb of Malad West in Mumbai for consuming meat in the premises during Navratra, in spite of being forbidden to do so by the landlord.
According to Manisha Sharma Singh she was given a month’s notice by her landlord on Wednesday, instructing her to vacate her accommodation, as she was clearly told by her landlord at the time of signing the Leave and License agreement that non-veg food would not be allowed inside the premises.
Though the actor tried to generally avoid consuming or bringing in non vegetarian food inside the apartment on Sunday she had a couple of friends over who wanted to consume beer and chicken as it was her birthday, she told this reporter.
Accordingly, on Sunday, the trio had ordered chicken biryani and chicken tandoori from a nearby restaurant and a brought a couple of beers.
The next day, on finding beer cans in the garbage bin, the landlord who lives in the vicinity confronted her for consuming liquor and non veg food in the premises and that too during Navratra.
She apologized to the landlord and the other four families residing in the premises, but her apology was not accepted by them and Manisha was told to vacate the accommodation within a month’s time.
Manisha says she regrets breaking the rules, but it was her birthday and her friends are all non-vegetarians. “I am paying Rs 12,000/- per month as rent and if I cannot consume beer and chicken on my birthday, it’s not worth continuing to stay in the complex. I have started looking for an alternative and will shift within the next 30 days as instructed by the landlord.”
Manisha does not want to create a public issue or go to the media with her case. In fact, she did not want to be quoted or photographed for this story.
“I was told about the society rules at the time of signing the rent agreement. So I guess it’s a private society and all the other five families are vegetarians. The majority decision and sentiment matters and it is better I look for another, more ‘tolerant’ society,” Manisha told this reporter.
