Good News: PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline extended to June 30
NEW DELHI: The central government has extended the last date for taxpayers to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar card.
According to a release by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the date has been extended till June 30, 2023.
It said that notification in this regard is being issued separately.
As the deadline to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar was nearing, several thousand people across the country were logging onto the income tax e-filing portal – to check their Aadhaar-PAN linking status.
Many users, however, have taken to social media and complained that the link to check the Aadhaar-PAN status was not working.
The related government websites were not available or were ‘down’ on several occassions over the last few days, promting several prominent citizens to call for an extension.
Linking PAN with Aadhaar is important to help curb tax evasion.
If a taxpayer fails to link the two documents, his/her PAN card will become inoperative.
The taxpayer will not be able to furnish, intimate or quote his PAN in such cases.
