PANAJI: A superintendent of police (SP) of the Goa Police has been openly supporting the candidature of Congress Calangute candidate Michael Lobo and commenting and posting on social media in favor of Michael Lobo, as well as defending or promoting him via messages and posts.

This is unprecedented, as during elections, senior police officials are not supposed to openly show their support or preference for any candidate are are expected to be neutral.

Like all voters, police and administrative officials could have a private preference for a particular candidate but are not permitted to make any comments or posts in public on social media.

Michael Lobo has time and again denied any role or involvement in the attack on the Souza Lobo restaurant and even went on record to claim that the fight and attack was a result of business rivalry between the staff of two restaurants – a claim that is proved false by an order of the North Goa Sessions court, while granting bail to one of the arrested accused.

The bail order of the North Goa Sessions Court in bail application No 18/2022 before the Court of the Ad-Hoc Addl. Sessions Judge at Mapusa has also indicted the police and the former Police Inspector of the Calangute police station for supporting criminals like Gajendra Singh alias Chotu and one Sunil Bhomkar who are non Goan business men and run several illegal Ladies Dance Bars in the Vagator to Nerul area in the coastal belt.
