PANAJI: A case that has left the Goa Police red-faced, a luxury car registered in Delhi has vanished from the premises of the Colvale police station.

According to a report in The Goan, the SUV was driven to Goa and ended up in a scrapyard situated within the jurisdiction of the Colvale police station.

During routine patrolling, a police team was alerted by the presence of the vehicle in the scrapyard and interrogated the yard owner. The cops found that the car had no papers and its registration was about to expire.

The vehicle was confiscated and towed to the police station for further enquiry. This took place in April this year and the vehicle stayed put in the police station premises for two months, with no progress in the investigation.

Since April 2023 till June 2023, the car remained in the premises of the Colvale police station but the cops did not complete the paper work and there was no progress in the investigation, nor was its presence in Goa verified.

Exactly two days after the vehicle’s registration expired on June 19, 2023, the car, painted in a B-Steel colour mysteriously went missing from the police station with absolutely no information about it’s whereabouts.

According to The Goan report, a scrapyard owner had ‘purchased’ a Ford Endeavour with the registration number DL3C AY 6511, which was ‘parked’ at the Colvale scrapyard. Despite nearing the end of its registration validity, the car was in a remarkably good condition and was apparently not much used.

Sources told The Goan that an entry in the station diary revealed that the car had gone missing from the very premises of the police station itself, but no further leads were mentioned.

“In April 2023, the car was brought to the police station for inquiry. After around two months, it mysteriously disappeared from the same location. The Colvale cops officially recorded this in the station diary on June 21, 2023,” the report said.

As of now, no First Information Report has been filed at the Colvale police station. It is also not known if the car actually vanished from the police station premises or if it was illegally sold, with some of the cops in the know, considering its lack of a registered owner. The original owner, Praveen Kumari, resides in New Delhi, but the Goa police did not manage to get to the bottom of the matter.

Sources further confirmed that when the car was initially brought to the police station, the concerned cops neglected to officially document its presence while the subsequent missing status was promptly recorded in the station diary.

“No investigation has been conducted so far. If the car has indeed been illegally sold, there is a possibility that such practices might be occurring in other police stations as well,” the report claimed.

When contacted about this case, Colvale police officials were tight-lipped and refused to say anything. Instead, we were directed to the police PRO for further information in the matter. Several calls to the police PRO were unanswered.
