PANAJI: The Anjuna Police Thursday arrested Edwin Nunes, owner of the Curlies beach restaurant at Anjuna, for submitting a fake covid certificate, while seeking exemption from appearance.

Nunes who was on the run for almost a month, was also wanted by the Hyderabad Narco cops in another case and was earlier arrested and released on bail in connection with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case in the actor and politician Sonali Phogat matter.

After being released on bail, Nunes was summoned on several occasions at the Anjuna Police Station in November for investigation purposes, but he produced a fake COVID certificate from a private diagnostics lab and evaded remaining present.

The Anjuna Police lodged another FIR against Nunes for submitting a forged document and he was arrested under Sections 468 and 472 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Since Nunes violated the bail conditions, the Goa police made an application before the sessions court for cancellation of his bail.

The Goa police have also intimated the Hyderabad cops of his arrest and it is most likely that the Hyderabad cops will seek his custody after his Goa remand gets over.
