Dahisar East illegal Ladies & Orchestra bar Jayprit raided, women found hidden; 25 arrested

MUMBAI: According to a PTI report, a raid on a restaurant-cum-bar (Orchestra bar) Jayprit in the Dahisar area of Mumbai led to several women being rescued from a specially-built cavity, while others were found dancing, a police official said on Saturday.

The Enforcement team of the Social Service Branch of the Mumbai police acting on a tip-off of the illegal operation of banned orchestra bars in Dahisar raided the Jayprit (Orchestra) Bar and Restaurant near Jarimari Garden, CS Road, Dahisar East Mumbai on 17 December at 00.20 hrs and found several illegal activities going on.

During the raid the police found several women hidden in a cavity and 27 accused and took them into custody after registering an FIR at the Dahisar Police Station under CR No 1763/22, u/s 114, 34 IPC, r/w 3, 8(1),(2),(4) Prohibition of Obscene Dancing in Hotel, Restaurants and Bar rooms and the Protection of the dignity of the women (working in them) act 2016.

The raid that took place on Friday late night resulted in the arrest of 19 customers and six staff of the eatery, including the manager, the Dahisar police official said.

”We found four women on the dance floor, while 17 women were hidden in a specially-built cavity to hoodwink police during such raids. They were rescued and allowed to leave,” he said.

The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) due to the way the women had been hidden in the cavity as well as other offences related to obscenity, he added.
