Bhojpuri actress Suman Kumari aka Suman Yadav arrested for running sex racket, forcing girls into prostitution

MUMBAI: According to media reports, a Bhojpuri actress was arrested during the weekend for allegedly forcing women into prostitution. Suman Kumari, 24, was arrested during a raid by the Mumbai Police’s Social Service Branch on Friday evening, reports said. The cops rescued three women from being trapped into the racket.

According to an official, they received a tip about a prostitution racket operating out of the Royal Palms Hotel in Goregaon East, where “models were supplied for prostitution.” A squad raided the hotel. This happened after actress Aarti Mittal’s recent arrest regarding her involvement in running a sex racket in Mumbai. She was picked up in a similar raid after receiving a tip-off.

‘A Bhojpuri actress Suman Kumari (24) has been arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly forcing girls (models) into prostitution. Police also rescued three models. Further investigation is being done,’ the Crime Branch said in a press statement on Friday. “Kumari would supply models to customers. These women, some of them from poor backgrounds, who had come to the city to make a career in acting and films had fallen on hard times and needed money to maintain their lifestyle,” a police official said.

Suman Kumari was arrested when the cops searched the hotel in Goregaon East on a tip. The 24-year-old actress is accused of pressuring the girls into prostitution for Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000.

Who is Suman Kumari?

Suman Kumari aka Suman Yadav, also known as Suman Kumari Tetu Gopi, has worked in several Bhojpuri films. She has featured in several projects including Laila Majnu, Jomestic Box, Baap Numbari Beta 10 Numbari and also a few Bhojpuri web series.

She has done several Hindi and Punjabi music albums as a lead. The police claim that Suman has been residing in Mumbai for the last six years.

Suman Kumari has appeared in Bhojpuri and Hindi films such as ‘Laila Majnu’ and ‘Baap Numbari, and Beta Dus Numbari’. According to the cops, she has also appeared in music videos and songs in other languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri.

FIR against Suman Kumari:

An FIR was registered by the Mumbai police following the raid and provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) were invoked. The Mumbai police are looking for another suspect, a male accomplice who is said to be the conduit between Kumari and the customers.
