NCB Should Check Jails: Charas, Ganja More Easily Available At Arthur Road Jail, Than On Cruises

MUMBAI: While a hue and cry is being made about a few grams of charas and ganja seized from friends of Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, who were about to board a cruise ship, the harsh reality is that far much more quantities of charas and ganja would be found inside the Arthur Road Jail itself, where Aryan Khan is currently being held in judicial custody.

A huge business of buying and selling of drugs goes on at the Arthur Road jail, Byculla jail, Thane jail and Taloja jail near Vashi. And many inmates are seen puffing away to glory, inside their cells or barracks, be it on charas and ganja-laced cigarettes or the jail special chillum.

Nigerian undertrials and convicts who run and control the drug business in all of Mumbai’s (MMR region) jails, including Pune and Nasik jails, swallow capsules of drugs to hide them inside their body and excrete the capsules as and when required for consumption by a buyer.

Other drug peddlers inside the jails, hide drugs packed in silver foil or in plastic pouches, deep inside their rectum or anal cavity to avoid detection during jharti or “checking”. The minute plastic capsules once retrieved are washed thoroughly and then cut open to remove the drug substance stashed inside.

Not just soft or natural drugs as charas and ganja are known, even all the chemical drugs like MD, cocaine, heroin, etc., are easily available inside all prisons, not just in Maharashtra, but all over the country.

Nigerian peddlers inside the prisons are so adept at hiding the drugs, that no amount of “utak baitak” or situps (the normal technique used by jail staff to detect and find out if an inmate has hidden contraband inside his anus) would make a packet hidden inside a peddlers rectum fall out or come off.

Not just drugs even foreign currency in huge amounts as well as Indian currency is hidden in ‘carriers’ rectums, during transportation in and out of the jail. Inmates are not allowed to use cash inside the jail. They are instead issued color-coded jail coupons, which can be used by the inmates to purchase food stuff from the jail canteen, and also help the jail authorities track the movement and usage of the jail currency on a monthly basis.

As a matter of saying, at the moment, Aryan Khan has easier access to all kinds of drugs inside Arthur Road Jail, than when he is outside. And he need not even worry about paying. Most drug peddlers inside the Arthur Road Jail would more than happily give him unlimited credit because they know their superstar client will never ditch them. Something the Narcotics Control Bureau didn’t possibly think about when opposing Khan’s bail application.
