Circular Ring Round The Sun On Tuesday Is A Sign For Goa To Read The Writing On The Wall: GPF

MARGAO: According to media reports, an unusual astronomical sight, a circular ring around the sun, was seen in the sky of Goa on Tuesday afternoon.

Now, the Goa People’s Forum (GPF) said in a press note on Thursday that the rare astronomical phenomenon is also a “sign from above for all Goans irrespective of religious beliefs, to read the writing on the wall and kick out corrupt politicians from power”.

The GPF release said that Divine Providence works in a myriad of ways and one of them is rare astronomical sights that are an indication of things to come.

According to the TOI, which reported the incident, this phenomenon is known as a solar halo or solar ring or a 22 degree halo.

The halo appeared at around 2 pm and lasted for an hour. Interestingly, people who witnessed it in Goa referred to it as a round rainbow, TOI said.

According to experts, it is caused when the sun is at its zenith and ice crystals in the upper atmosphere act as a prism to refract sunlight, thus causing the illusion or vision of a round ring, which seems to hover around the sun.

In ancient times, before scientific weather meteorology forecasting developed, the phenomenon was an indicator that rainfall within a day or two was likely.

Weather forecasting claims that the cirrostratus clouds that cause this effect can signify an approaching frontal rain system, as the clouds normally bring rain.
