Meanwhile, the Islamic State Khorasan, also known as the ISIS-K, has claimed responsibility for the bombings at Kabul airport and said it carried out the attacks outside the airport in Afghanistan, killing more than 70 people including 13 US military personnel and wounding hundreds of others.
The ISIS-K said it’s suicide bombers targeted US troops, US citizens and Afghans attempting to get the last remaining seats on flights out of the war-ravaged country.
Fighters of the ISIS-K shared images of the “martyr” on the group’s Telegram account, posing in front of the ISIS flag while holding a gun, and wearing a suicide vest.
Two suicide bombers and gunmen carried out the attack on Thursday, August 26, the ISIS-K said.
Before the attack a number of nations, including the US and UK, had warned their citizens of a high threat of a terrorist attack at the Kabul airport and warned them not to gather near the airport. They were told to stay back at their homes and only leave when intimated.
